That's just scentific fact - you can't argue with that ;). I don't know if I'm quite as hard line as you think I am, I'm just as willing to admit as you are that if the evidence was there, I would start believing in a god. But there isn't. Also, in terms of moderation I think there is plenty of room for it. But it depends on the question. Morality tends to be a gray area where there is room to maneuver. However questions like is Jesus the son of God are closed questions - he is or he isn't, and those are the questions don't have such room. There is no "sort of" the son of God.
